How Food And Wine Shape The Greek Island Experience

Food and wine are at the heart of any great Greek Island experience. A glass of chilled rosé at sunset and dishes that carry the flavours of a region are the details that define your journey. But to experience them fully, you need someone who knows the islands inside out. The Sailing in Style team has done the ‘hard work’ for you, tasting and testing food across the Greek Islands, allowing us to book restaurants we trust. We know the chefs, the hidden spots and the must-order dishes. All you need to do is arrive at the table and we’ll ensure that you have the best seats in the house.

Your Greek Island Experience, Dish By Dish

  1. Briam – Crete
Briam is the Greek answer to ratatouille: layers of courgettes, aubergines, potatoes and tomatoes roasted slowly with olive oil and herbs. A summer staple that’s light enough for hot evenings, yet hearty when paired with sharp, crumbly feta.
  2. Grilled Calamari With Feta Mousse – Paros
Grilled over an open flame and paired with armira, a wild summer green that grows locally, adding a peppery freshness to the plate.
  3. Fourtalia – Andros
A hearty omelette made with local sausages, potatoes and herbs, perfect after a day of sailing.
  4. Slow-Marinated Chicken Fillet – Kythnos
Marinated in olive oil, garlic and oregano, then grilled slowly to lock in flavour. Served with vegetables charred over the same flame and served at family-run restaurants, where recipes are passed down through generations.
  5. Atherina – Saronic Islands
Crisp-fried whitebait eaten whole, best enjoyed with a cold glass of Assyrtiko by the sea. A must-have as part of your Greek Island experience.
  6. Kopanisti – Mykonos
A fiery, peppery cheese spread unique to the island, paired with bread and tomatoes.
  7. Pastitsada – Corfu
A slow-cooked cinnamon and tomato stew, served with thick pasta, reflecting Venetian influence.
  8. Grilled Octopus – The Cyclades
The tradition is to sun-dry the octopus first, intensifying its flavour before it hits the grill. Once tender, it’s dressed simply with olive oil and lemon.

Flavours At Sea

On board, we keep things simple but special: fresh ingredients, seasonal produce and meals prepared by us to enjoy together as we sail. We favour crisp salads, grilled fish and light Mediterranean dishes that taste even better at sea. And if you’d like to make an evening unforgettable, we can arrange for a private chef to join us. Dinner served on deck, under the stars. It turns a simple dinner into one of the defining moments of your Greek island experience.

Adding Vineyard Tours To Your Trip

If you’re into wine, we recommend adding Nemea to your itinerary. Just a short trip from the Saronic Islands, it’s one of Greece’s most important wine regions and the home of Agiorgitiko, a grape behind some of the country’s best reds. We’ll take you to vineyards for tastings, but the experience doesn’t stop there. Nearby you’ll find the ancient Temple of Zeus, the stadium where the Nemean Games were held and the archaeological museum that brings the site to life. It’s the perfect mix of great wine and living history, all in one stop along your Greek island experience.
